Berlin-based telli has closed a $15 million seed round, bringing its total funding to more than $18.5 million. The round was led by Redalpine, with participation from Mutschler, Cherry Ventures, Y Combinator, and a handful of angel investors.

What telli Actually Does

Founded in 2024 by Seb Hapte-Selassie, Philipp Baumanns, and Finn zur Muehlen, telli builds AI agents for B2C companies that need to automate customer interactions at scale. The platform spans voice, chat, SMS, WhatsApp, and email — covering the full surface area of how consumers actually communicate with businesses today.

Use cases include:

  • Answering inbound customer enquiries
  • Qualifying and routing leads
  • Booking appointments
  • Resolving service requests
  • Managing contracts and product comparisons

The company says its agents already handle millions of customer conversations across a client base ranging from SMEs to large enterprises.

Meet Charlie

At the centre of the platform is Charlie, described as an AI coworker for customer operations teams. Rather than just deploying bots, Charlie is designed to help internal teams build and optimise agents, connect to existing systems, analyse conversation data, and surface operational issues.

This positions telli closer to an operations intelligence layer than a simple chatbot vendor — the distinction matters because it targets both front-line automation and the management overhead that comes with running multi-channel customer ops at scale.

Why This Matters Now

The timing reflects a broader market shift. As AI assistants take on more of the customer-facing workload, the complexity of managing consistent, high-quality interactions across multiple channels grows significantly. Businesses can't rely on legacy CRM workflows and siloed tools when a single customer might move from a WhatsApp message to a voice call to an email thread within one resolution journey.

"Customer-facing operations are becoming too complex to run with the current tools alone. The next generation of consumer companies will need AI that can talk to customers, work across channels, and help teams improve the operation behind every interaction. That's what we're building with telli."Finn zur Muehlen, co-founder and CEO, telli

How the Funding Will Be Used

telli plans to deploy the capital across three priorities:

  • Engineering expansion — deepening voice capabilities and the multi-channel agent platform
  • Charlie development — making the AI coworker more capable at surfacing operational insights
  • Go-to-market growth — accelerating B2C enterprise adoption across European and international markets

Competitive Context

telli is entering a crowded but still-forming space. Players like Intercom (with Fin), Salesforce (with Agentforce), and a growing tier of voice-AI startups are all competing for customer operations budgets. What differentiates telli's positioning is the emphasis on operational management — not just deploying agents, but giving teams the tools to monitor, improve, and scale them.

For startup founders and marketers, the signal here is clear: point solutions for customer support are rapidly becoming insufficient. The companies winning this space are those offering a unified layer across channels, with built-in analytics and workflow automation. If you're evaluating your customer ops stack right now, the expectation is that AI agents will handle a meaningful share of volume — the real question is who manages them.
