Neuraspace, the Portuguese space technology company founded in 2020 by Chiara Manfletti, has secured €15.6 million in new financing to scale its AI-enabled Space Domain Awareness (SDA) and Space Traffic Management (STM) platform. The round combines strategic private investment from Lince Capital, Explorer Investments, and Armilar Venture Partners with grant funding awarded under Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

What Neuraspace Actually Does

Neuraspace operates at the intersection of AI, orbital mechanics, and space security — a niche that's growing rapidly as low Earth orbit becomes increasingly crowded. Its platform ingests data from both commercial and sovereign sensor networks and applies high-precision orbit determination alongside AI-driven risk and threat assessment to give satellite operators a real-time operational picture.

The system is designed to detect and respond to a broad threat matrix:

  • Collision risks from orbital debris and other satellites
  • Cyberattacks targeting satellite infrastructure

Neuraspace has outlined several specific deployment areas for the new capital:

  • AI platform development, including enhanced autonomous mission operations
  • Proprietary optical sensing infrastructure — expanding the company's own ground-based observation network
  • NeuraspaceDEF, the company's dual-use solution purpose-built for government and defence customers

The dual-use angle is particularly significant. European governments are under pressure to develop sovereign SDA capabilities that don't rely on US-controlled systems, and Neuraspace's positioning as a European-built, AI-native platform gives it a strong narrative in that procurement context.

Neuraspace isn't operating in a vacuum. US-based players like LeoLabs and ExoAnalytic Solutions have been building commercial SDA capabilities for years, while Slingshot Aerospace has attracted significant venture backing for its space situational awareness and analytics platform. In Europe, GMV and a handful of defence-adjacent startups are also competing for government SDA contracts.
