New York Becomes First State to Enact a Data Center Ban
Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a first-of-its-kind statewide moratorium blocking new environmental permits for large data centers in New York. The order targets facilities over 50 megawatts and gives the state up to a year to develop regulations around energy costs and environmental impact. A broader legislative bill with a stricter threshold still awaits her signature.
